TIPS ON HOW TO RIDE A LONGBOARD
Longboard riding helps you show up all your moves skillfully and rhythmically to keep pace and stream between movements, unlike the extra force or powers you apply in skateboarding.
- Look out for a smooth surface with vast space and be sure there are no moving vehicles. Place your longboard on the ground and ready to go. Place your standing foot(either your left or right foot) onto the center of the board and a bit out of the center.
- Lift off with your other foot on the ground to propel. Once the board starts moving, lift it from the ground and place it immediately on the board and place it shoulder level distance from your front foot, then bend your knees a bit to attain equilibrium.
- When it feels like the board is slowing down, give it a push again or even may have the tendency to drop your feet back on the ground and when motion commences again, put back your pushing foot behind your standing foot on the board for balance.
- Relax your body weight on the left if you need to turn left and right if you need to right and vice versa. When this is done, you must feel the deck of your longboard drop a bit. This is because longboards are sensitive to weight change, making it easier to change direction with them.
- If you need to stop or take a break, leave your standing foot, move your pushing foot slowly out of the board to the ground, and don’t apply much pressure when doing this, so you don’t lose your stability and fall of the longboard.
Riding a Longboard
Step1: Motion should first be considered a beginner, and to achieve this, you must learn to push off by placing your front foot on the board and back foot to the ground. To attain balance first and move.
Step2: Once you have achieved step1, try gliding gently on a slight cliff. Gravity will help out, so you don’t need to apply much pressure. When you attain comfort, you may now increase speed.
Step3: Once you feel you are losing balance and on the verge of falling, leap off and run to gain your balance not to fall off. It is better than crashing off from the board.
Step4: There are many cruises to catch with your board, but this can happen when you have learned how to start, push off, brake, turn and glide. Riding regularly will be easier.
Step5: When riding, look directly at how you are riding and not at your feet on the longboard. Your board will follow where your eyes are focused.
